I love this episode. It's probably one of the ones I've watched the most times. It also serves as the end of Series Seven and Matt Smith's final regular episode. As a warning, this review will contain spoilers for this story.
This episode reunited the Fourth Doctor and Jago and Litefoot on audio for the first time ever. I was sadly disappointed with this episode. John Dorney has written some of my favorite stories in any medium like Absent Friends from Doom Coalition 3. Sadly, I felt that this episode wasn't quite as good as some of his others. That said, not every episode by a writer can be great, and this episode certainly had some good elements. The number one thing I enjoyed in this episode was Jago. I've never been a fan of his and Litefoot's stories, but with episodes such as this, I have started realizing that they are enjoyable characters. His speaking pattern is very unique and Dorney did a good job capturing it. There is a bit of a nice emotional scene at the end of the episode that was reminiscent of some of Dorney's other, more emotional works. That said, this episode was rather forgettable. The only really memorable thing was the emotional ending, but outside of that, this felt a lot like a typical Doctor Who story in Victorian London. Overall, this was a decent, yet sadly forgettable episode. |
